Awalnya, saya nggak sengaja lihat buku ini pas lagi (kurang kerjaan) sweeping di book departement-nya web Amazon. Telat banget taunya kalau ternyata The Shining punya sekuel, haha.
Sebenernya secara personal, menurut saya buku yang pertama lebih serem. Idk, because I think it's more of a psychological horror?? You know, that kind of horror that makes you believe the real problem is actually inside your head--instead of just scary creatures from the other side? To me, that makes the clash between human minds and evil spirits sounds way more believable... somehow (not that I expect perfect logic and reasoning from a fiction book though, let alone a horror novel; but still).
Sementara di Doctor Sleep, beda antara peran antagonis dan protagonisnya jauh lebih jelas. Tapi yah... karena ide ceritanya bagus dan eksekusinya perfecto, saya masih seneng bacanya. Semula sempat ketar-ketir takut tamatnya bad ending (saya bukan maso, makasih), tapi ternyata enggak hahaha. Not the classic happily-ever-after; more like bittersweet to be exact--but at least Dan and Abra makes it to the end so I am all smiles. All hail Stephen King!
Karakter favorit: Danny (yang di sini saya baru ngeh kalo nama tengahnya ternyata Anthony??? Buang-buang waktulah kemaren saya bertanya-tanya apa kabar Tony setelah The Shining tamat).
